From San Marcos Record: Three freshmen from Kyle High School with their instructor Elbert D. Steele, left, after winning the State Poultry Judging Champions at Texas A&M, on Saturday, May 6th. The boys are (left to right) , Joe Castillo, Nick Thiele, and Orville Collier. Their win marked the second State Judging Title won by Kyle High School since May of 1955, when the school took home the State Dairy Judging title. The three young men will go on to the National Judging Contest to be held in Kansas City, Missouri in November.

From San Marcos Record: Top Poultry Judgers from Kyle High School Joe Castillo, Nick Thiele, and Orville Collier attended the Fort Worth Stock Show beating out former National Champion Tolar in the process. The boys with only two weeks of training came in close behind Waxahachie and Richland Springs in the competition.
