From San Marcos Record: Mail Truck Stopped – this Ford Falcon(left) driven by Linda Neil Haynes accomplished what "neither rain nor hail nor snow" has been able to do – stopped the U. S. Mail. The truck driven by Willie Welge collided with the auto on the corner of Hopkins and Johnson Streets Saturday morning. No one was injured although an estimated $1,150 total damages were done. From November 2, 1961, issue.

From San Marcos Record: Outstanding success was what the "Short Course in Public Health" was called this past week as more than one hundred participants attended the three-day course at Carson's sponsored by the San Marcos-Hays County Health Department. The people shown above mainly work in food services in the county were awarded certificates of completion by James Burwell, county sanitarian and E.C. Nelson, instructor of the course from the State Health Department.
