Historical note
Board of Regents was established by the Texas Legislature in 1911 [H.B. no.17, chapter 5]. The Board is responsible for the general control and management of the universities in the system [amended by Acts 1975, 64th Leg., p. 1160, ch. 434, section 3, effective June 19, 1975].
The Board of Regents of the Texas State University System is comprised of Lamar University, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College - Orange, Lamar State College - Port Arthur, Sam Houston State University, Texas State University, Sul Ross State University, and Sul Ross State University Rio Grande College. Angelo State University was a member until 2007.
