Camp Logan: Discussion and Dramatic Reading

Description
A dramatic reading by the Texas State student actors from Camp Logan, the NAACP Image Award-winning play by Celeste Bedford Walker. The play is based on real-life events in Houston in 1917, when members of the highly decorated 24th Infantry Regiment were subjected to extreme Jim Crow treatment. Walker's nuanced, suspenseful dramatization details the buildup to the riot that left dozens dead, including 17 African American soldiers hanged for mutiny. The reading is followed by a conversation by Dr. Sandra Mayo (Professor Emeritus at Texas State) with the playwright, Celeste Beford Walker.
