From San Marcos Record: Four hunters – Four deer were the results of this opening day hunt by, left to right, Virgil Cowan of San Marcos, M. W. Cowan of Kerrville, John Ploetz of San Antonio and Bob Collier of Driftwood. Largest of the kill an 11-point, 108-pound deer was killed from a 300-yard shot from the front yard of the Cowan Ranch house with a .243 caliber rifle.
