From San Marcos Record: First San Marcos bale of cotton ginned at the O.C. Smith gin belonged to Juan Mendoza pictured on the right. The bale weighed 572 pounds, was graded "strict muddling" and was one inch staple cotton. Interested onlookers are right to left: C.M. Allen (cotton buyer), Marvin Jackson (compress manager), and Lamar Smith (a fourth-generation member of a ginning family). From the August 11, 1960, issue.
