From San Marcos Record: Four generations of Hays County men have worked on the Hays County Courthouse according to Milton M. Hughes who is currently remodeling the building. Milton's father, the late N.E. Hughes helped build the original stone courthouse in 1882. Shown here are Milton Hughes and two of his grandsons, Monty Quick and Jimmy McMurray whose job it is to clean and stack the bricks.

Yard of the Month (Image 1961-366_022)

From San Marcos Record: July yard of the month – the plaque deservedly goes to the beautiful yard of the R.J. Pollards on 211 South Ridgeway for the month of July as awarded by the Balcones Garden Club. This yard utilizes the native trees, has good permanent planting and a striking planter of caladiums of many varieties along the front. The judging committee wishes to give honorable mention to the residents of Highland Drive who strive for lovely yard as having the most beautiful whole street.
