From San Marcos Record: In 1959 a group of San Marcos men banded into an organization called the Blue Sox Club. They celebrated at their first annual banquet in December 1960 where officers were presented along with 20 letterman from last summer's baseball team. About 100 members and guests attended the lively affair at the National Guard Armory. The event included dancing and the presentation of officers and lettermen by Encarnation Ruiz and then dancing and music by Eloy Espinoza's orchestra. The Blue Sox had a great season winning 20 games and dropping only six. Membership into the Blue Sox was by recommendation from a member, and then a committee voted on the new applicant. A policy has been made to let only San Marcos residents join the club, although a number of college students played on the baseball team in the summer. The club held two regular meetings a month. The sponsor of the organization was John Arredondo who furnished the equipment and playing facilities for the ball team. Lettermen announced last Saturday were Armando Garcia, Johnny Arredondo, Al Lopez, Bobby Rodriguez, Raymond Mendez, Raymond Lucio, Pete Mendez, Tony Garcia, Lupe Torres, Richard Rivera, Oscar Cantu, Raul Saucedo, George Rosales, Paul Contreras and Gilbert Vasquez.
