1960 Fire Prevention Week (Image 1960-024_004)

From San Marcos Record: Fire Prevention Week got one of its biggest boosts in the history of San Marcos this week as a fire department team of Jack Major (left) and young Sherrell Slayter, David Major and Edward Rodenberg put on assembly programs in public schools throughout the city. Students were urged at the schools to make home fire inspections and correct any hazards they found. Here Fire Marshall Major extinguishes one of the most common hazards. Marian Meeks oral history interview

Marian Meeks talks about talks about the life of her father, H.A. Nelson, who taught agriculture at Texas State for many years. She shares his own experiences attending SWTSTC in the 1930s and 1940s. She discusses aspects of campus life including literary societies, athletics, recitals, the Faculty Club, Aquarena (Spring) Lake, and shares stories about campus figures such as Mary Brogdon. Mrs. Meeks shares her early teaching experiences in Moulton, her graduate studies at UT-Austin, work in VA hospitals, and how she returned to San Marcos.
