Photograph of a sign advertising the Guadalupe Valley Head Pin Tournament. From San Marcos Record: One hundred eleven men and forty-two women bowlers participated in the first annual Guadalupe Valley Head Pin Tournament held September 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Bowlers came from the San Marcos and surrounding area to compete. Bill George took home first place honors in the men's division. Chris Hopper won the women's division. The Sports Mirror and San Marcos Record sponsored the event. From the September 8, 1960, issue.

From San Marcos Record: Fire Prevention Week got one of its biggest boosts in the history of San Marcos this week as a fire department team of Jack Major (left) and young Sherrell Slayter, David Major and Edward Rodenberg put on assembly programs in public schools throughout the city. Students were urged at the schools to make home fire inspections and correct any hazards they found. Here Fire Marshall Major extinguishes one of the most common hazards.
