Awards were based upon advancement, attendance, and attitude in each of the three swimming groups as well as handicrafts class. Standing (left to right) Flo Van Gundy, Carol Graddick, A.W. Musgrave, Bill Craddick, Kay Bucker, Donald Illk, Barbara Peterson, Leah Stallworth, De Voy Shaw, and Mary Clay LeSueur. Seated are Ben Graddick, Carol Adams, Mary Martin and Terry Adams." From San Marcos Record: "These three young ladies were the winners of the Pageant of Pulchritude at Recreation Park Water Show on Wednesday August 11, 1948. First place was ten-year-old Leah Lucille Stalllworth of Marlin, Texas; Seven-year-old Flo Christian Van Gundy was the third place winner; and three-year-old Elizabeth MusGrave took home second place honors." From San Marcos Record: Fire Prevention Week got one of its biggest boosts in the history of San Marcos this week as a fire department team of Jack Major (left) and young Sherrell Slayter, David Major and Edward Rodenberg put on assembly programs in public schools throughout the city. Students were urged at the schools to make home fire inspections and correct any hazards they found. Here Fire Marshall Major extinguishes one of the most common hazards.
