Donkey Race (Image 1930s-167_003)

Description
Photograph of Posey winning donkey race. There was an impromptu race in San Marcos. The story goes that although it was a race of politicians, it was not a political race. The courthouse boys battled it out on donkeys with Gene Posey, county commissioner, nosing out county attorney Henry Kyle to win a Bray. Also ran were Huey Robinson, Manager of Penneys and judge Charlie Ramsey. Nobody lost a bet. The race was run as a stunt to advertise the Jaycee donkey softball games to be played at Nelson Field Thursday and Friday night. The crowd of spectators got a great kick out of the race, as well as the antics of the animal ridden by Judge Ramsey, which beat the judge in by 20 yards.
