Photograph of eleven male San Marcos High School students standing and posing together in front of building. The San Marcos High School organized the school's first safety patrol on January 4, 1938. The purpose of the organization was to provide a safe environment for students crossing North Austin Street on their way to and from the school. Charter members were Fred Pferdeort – Captain. Eddie Dedeke, John Matthew Cape, Bobby Wright, Craig Johnson, Woods Kone, Rufus Alexander, Billy Williams, and Oliver Jennings. Members were chosen on the basis of courtesy, dependability, thoughtfulness, cooperation and scholarship. Faculty advisors were Riley Housewright and Ivan Johnson. January 7, 1938

Photograph of an unidentified young traffic officer on North Austin Street (now North LBJ street) when it ran through the Southwest Texas State Teachers College campus. A member of the Campus School Safety Patrol which was first organized on January 4, 1938. The purpose of the organization was to provide a safe environment for students crossing North Austin Street on their way to and from the school. January 7, 1938

Photograph of train cars in front of machinery. From San Marcos Record: "The San Marcos Gravel Company was located 3 miles north on the Austin Highway. The San Marcos Gravel Company opened for business November 19, 1945 and could produce 300 tons of gravel an hour. The owners were C. S. Beauchamp of San Marcos and H. B. Ingram of San Antonio."
