Note
Information provided by users of original Flickr collection: Stuckey's Pecan Shoppe opened four miles south of San Marcos on March 31, 1961. The store was managed by Ralph and Jean Marker. Featured was a complete assortment of pecan products, along with fine foods, souvenirs, jellies, marmalades, and a snack bar. The store, costing over $60,000, was fully air conditioned with paved parking, full-service Texaco Service Station, and clean restrooms. Living quarters were located in the rear of the store for the manager and his family. The origins of the company date back to early 1935, when W. S. Stuckey, Sr. borrowed thirty-five dollars from his grandmother to establish his business of buying and selling pecans. By 1961, Stuckey's Company was located in twenty-seven states with over one hundred stores. Gross earnings averaged over $150,000 annually. 2/16/1961 & 3/30/1961
